Office Procedures

  1. Diagnostic & Operative Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy is a procedure that allows a gynecologist to look inside your uterus. The hysteroscope is a thin camera. It is inserted through the vagina and cervix into the cavity of the uterus (endometrial cavity). The uterine cavity is then distended with fluid and visualized.

Diagnostic hysteroscopy is used to examine the inside of the uterus. It is performed to diagnose abnormal uterine conditions such as polyps, internal fibroids, scarring, etc.

Operative hysterocopy may be used to both diagnose and treat certain conditions such as uterine adhesions, septums, or fibroids which can often be removed through the hysteroscope.

Both, diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy are generally safe and quick procedures that are performed in the office. Sometimes minimal sedation is needed depending on the case.

BOTOX® Cosmetic (onabotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in people 18 to 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).
  3. NovaSure

NovaSure ablation is a 90-second procedure performed in the office for women with heavy periods. Following the procedure, your periods will become lighter — or end your heavy period — without on-going pills and without hormonal side effects.

    What is NovaSure?

NovaSure is a type of endometrial ablation that can be completed in approximately 90 seconds. The NovaSure procedure utilizes precisely-measured radio frequency energy and is designed to help women with heavy periods by making their period lighter or ending it completely.

How long is the NovaSure procedure and recovery time?

The procedure requires less than five minutes and can be completed from the comfort of the office. The recovery time varies between patients because each woman’s body responds differently to the treatment. Most women are fully-recuperated within one day of the procedure, and regular activities can be resumed with little down-time.  By three months after the procedure, your body will be fully healed and menstrual cycles will become regular again.

Does the NovaSure procedure affect fertility?

Women can still become pregnant after the NovaSure procedure, but as with all types of endometrial ablation, there are significant risks associated with becoming pregnant after receiving the procedure. Because it targets the uterine lining, NovaSure reduces overall fertility and poses some risks to future fetal development. It is still important to continue using some form of birth control after the procedure because pregnancy is still possible.

What types of women benefit most from the NovaSure procedure?

NovaSure is designed for the benefit of women with heavy periods. If Dr. Fajardo has ruled out other causes for your heavy flow, NovaSure can be one of the most efficient ways to reduce the symptoms of your heavy period. Only women that do not plan to have children in the future should consider NovaSure.

How long does it take for women to see results?

After about three months, your body will have healed completely and your cycle will have returned to normal. At this point, you and Dr. Fajardo will be able to monitor and discuss what your period will be like in the future. Every woman’s body is different, and the time it takes for your cycle to resume its normal schedule will vary. 95% of patients with heavy flow were satisfied with the results of their procedure. NovaSure is one of the most popular treatments for heavy flow in the country, and comprises 70% of all endometrial ablations. For more information, brochures are available from our office upon request.

  4. Essure

Essure is a permanent birth control procedure that works with your body to create a natural barrier to prevent pregnancy. During the procedure, a small, soft insert is fed through the natural pathways of your vagina and cervix into your fallopian tubes — no surgery or incision is required along with immediate recovery.

Over the next three months, your body works with the inserts to form a natural barrier within each of your fallopian tubes. These barriers prevent sperm from reaching the eggs so that pregnancy cannot occur. During this three-month timeframe, you must continue to use another form of birth control.

After three months, a confirmation X-ray test is performed. Once Dr. Fajardo has confirmed that the fallopian tubes are completely blocked and the inserts are in place, you can rely on the method for permanent birth control.

  5. Leep

LEEP stands for Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure. It’s a treatment that prevents cervical cancer. A small electrical wire loop is used to remove abnormal cells from your cervix. LEEP surgery may be performed after abnormal cells are found during a Pap test, colposcopy, or biopsy.
